What?! I paid how much for this? - Turok
Well, I have been needing a new game for a little while now after finishing Assassins Creed, and I decided to pick up Turok. I had a cousin who played all the way through the game and thought that if he could spend the time playing through it then it must be worth playing. So I ran over to my local Eb Games and laid down $52 dollars. To get to the point: the game is horrible.
After installing the game I found out that the CDs are using copy protection, no CD-Keys or anything, just the infernal SecuROM copy protection. Now if I didn’t know how to circumvent this protection the game would have been unplayable, as the game will not even load. (to do this enter cmd into the run command to open a command prompt then type rd /s “%APPDATA%\SecuROM” and then enter y to the question that comes up)
Once you finally get the game to load and start the game, you are presented with a cut scene and a short training session then you are put into the game world. Upon entering the first actual area, you notice that the graphics look like they are 4 years old, nothing spectacular in any fashion. As you continue to play through you notice that the character animations are terrible, and are choppy (even at high FPS). After a few enemy encounters you notice that the enemies AI is so bad that you can kill someone right beside them and they just stand around. I even encountered times where I was standing right in front of the enemy and they didn’t see me at all. Guns also float when they should be laying on the ground. To top off terrible game design when I went up or down a ladder, enemies would just appear in places where I killed them before, they didn’t come from anywhere, they just appeared.
The only saving grace for this game is that the story so far appears to be interesting and present in the game, which all single player games need. While I realize that my 52 bucks was poorly spent, I will still try to play this game all the way through. I would only be more choked if I tossed the game aside and my hard earned money along with it. Do yourself a favor and skip this game.
